Old Handphone SIM Cards

When we change our mobile service provider, we get a new SIM card from the new service provider and we get to retain our old SIM cards. These SIM cards can be kept to power up any old mobile phones that you may have. Some newer phone models cannot power up without a SIM.

This is useful to transfer data from one phone to another especially when changing phone brands - where the PC suite may not be fully compatible.

Nonya Kueh - Pineapple Tarts & Odeh-odeh

For friends living in or visiting Singapore. This outlet sells very nice pineapple tarts and odeh-odeh. Pineapple tarts and odeh-odeh Nonya sweet desserts made famous by the Straits-born Chinese (also known locally as Nonyas) in Singapore.
Pineapple tarts are buttery tarts with a sweet topping of pineapple, while the odeh-odeh are balls made from tapioca flour with sugary filling and cover with coconut flakes. They are simply delicious when well made.

Green Idea

The pump attentants at local petrol (service) stations encourages drivers to top-up a full tank of petrol on each visit and many drivers do so. While this many reduce the number of visits to the petrol station, this may not be the most eco-friendly approach in a city where there are plenty of stations around.
Petrol has a density of 0.737 kg/cu. meter. Ten litres of petrol weighs 7.3 kg. Fuel is dead weight that is being driven around until they are used! Thus, is could make eco sense to top-up to just three-quater tank on each visit to minimise the weight of fuel in the car.
On the contrary, don't let your tank run too low, some manufacturers recommend at least a quater tank of fuel in order not to over stress the fuel pump.

Light Elements - Gravity

Overheard in a local primary school -

A teacher noticed a girl with very loose socks and asked her, "What does it mean when your socks keep rolling down?"

"Well, it means that Newton's right, gravity does exist!" answered the little girl.

Pit Stop

For residents of Singapore who are on the road a lot during the week, here's an idea to kill a few hours or take a break between appointments.

I was between appointments two days ago and happened to be driving near IKEA Tampines. I decided to stop for a cup of coffee at the IKEA cafe rather then to arrive too early at my next destination and sit around like a fool.

The cafe at IKEA is not too crowded during weekdays. So, even if you are alone, you can still find a table after you have purchased your food. Parking is free and coffee is also free for Friends of IKEA. Don't think anything else can beat this.

Camera Bag

I had been looking around for small camera bag for my Nikon Coolpix 5700 and Nikon Speedlight SB600 flash.
Recently, at Carrefour Singapore (Suntec City) I found just what I wanted and at a very resonable price to boot. The main compartment can be divided into 2 part for the camera and flash. Access is handy and there is an option to leave the bag unzipped, using just the quick release clasp to capture those special moments. The bag is a Carrefour house brand, comes in two sizes and cost just below SGD20 (1.53 SGD = 1 USD).
I would definitely recommend to anyone who don't usually carry around more than a single SLR and flash unit. It will leave your hands free for other stuff!
